MCA celebrated The 7th of April 2024, Mozambican Women’s Day under the motto “MULHER MOTOR DA UNIDADE NA DIÁSPORA” (WOMAN MOTOR OF UNITY IN THE DIASPORA)
The event that took place in Wachigton DC, had the special presence of His Excellency Mr. Ambassador Alfredo Nuvunga, Honorable former Ambassador of São Tomé and Príncipe Ovídio Pequeno and Wife of our sisters and brothers from Guinea Bissau, Angola, Kenya, Zimbabwe , Brazil, Malawi, Mozambique and USA.
The President of the MCA, Gloria Sumbana Mazula, in her intervention welcomed her present and in her words said that:
“Hoje, estamos aqui reunidos para celebrar o Dia da Mulher, uma data de extrema importância para reconhecer e homenagear a força, a coragem e a contribuição das mulheres em nossa sociedade”
(Today, we are gathered here to celebrate Women’s Day, an extremely important date to recognize and honor the strength, courage and contribution of women in our society)
Gloria Sumbana, highlighted the importance of gender equality and highlighting the achievements achieved by women over the years. Noting that it is a time to reflect on the challenges faced by women and reaffirm our commitment to promoting equality in all spheres of life.
That women are fundamental pillars in our families, communities and nations, and according to Gloria, they play different roles, as mothers, wives, professionals, leaders and agents of change. Its positive impact is evident in all areas, from science and technology, politics and the arts.
Finally, she highlighted that it is imperative to support women in their aspirations and dreams and encourage them to follow their interests and careers, without restrictions imposed by gender stereotypes, thus creating conditions for their empowerment.
The event featured a special moment of recognition for some members who have actively contributed to several key areas of the CMA, including Vicky Tayra Benfica, Dr. Lindie Massingue, Iolanda Mausse, Felix Simione, Vanessa Macamo and everyone directly involved. or indirectly has contributed to the success of MCA’s activities. Special thanks were extended to LLOYD PONDECA, NATALIA SARAPIAO, OLAVIO LANGA and CLARA PONDECA.
Regarding the recognition of members, it was mentioned that,
Vicky Tayra Benfica – is a student, Mozambican, and dedicated Masoko writer/contributor. Today we recognize and applaud Tayra Benfica for the exceptional her volunteer work in the MCA community and her dedication as a writer and contributor to Masoko Newsletter. It is with great admiration and gratitude that I acknowledge her remarkable work.
Dr. Lindie Massingue –Dr. Lindie is a seasoned educator, leader, and visioner. She earned her Ph.D. in Education and leads many non-profit organizations in Mozambique helping young men and women. She is the Mozambique reSurgence conference coordinator. Dr. Lindie is a writer and contributor to Masoko Newsleader. She has consistently demonstrated a level of dedication and commitment that is truly inspiring. Her tireless efforts have not only produced outstanding results in whatever she does but have also set a shining example for other to follow.
Iolanda Mausse—is a mother, wife, and dedicated Masoko writer and contributor. Through her unwavering determination and perseverance, Iolanda has proven time and time her ability to overcome challenges and achieve success. We are grateful for her.
Marina Thembo – Marina is a trained and registered lawyer in Mozambique. She juggles her activities between being a mother to young children, a wife, and now a student. Marina has contributed a lot of knowledge to Mozambican law through her writing to Masoko. We recognize and thank Marina for her work.
There was also a moment of Word of Appreciation to the outgoing Masoko Editor, Felix Simione, for being part of the Masoko team as a writer and Chief Editor from the start. Throughout your time with the Masoko, Felix have consistently demonstrated a remarkable talent for crafting engaging and informative content. his work, dedication, tenacity, have captivated our readers and them eagerly anticipating each new edition of Masoko and delivering high-quality articles, your attention to details, and your ability to convey information in a clear and concise manner has been invaluable to our community. As you Felix embark on a new chapter, the MCA in the words of the President Gloria, took a moment to express the deepest appreciation for his incredible work as our Masoko Newsletter editor, and welcome Vanessa Macamo as the new Masoko Newsletter editor.
